A barbecue should do more than cook—it should spark something. When Merison, who worked with Jamie Oliver on a new BBQ concept, invited us to join a design pitch that was all but wrapped up, we didn’t hold back. Armed with nothing more than a few moodboards and screenshots from Jamie’s phone, we developed a bold concept inspired by classic Land Rovers, cast iron, and honest materials, we created a Barbie that felt as real and robust as Jamie himself.

No brief, no time, and a pitch we weren’t expected to win. But we saw the potential. How do you capture Jamie’s hands-on approach to food in a product? How do you make it authentic, practical, distinctly British, and unmistakably Jamie Oliver using just a few visual clues?

We designed a gas grill that captures the spirit of classic British craftsmanship - sturdy and practical, made from no-nonsense materials like cast steel, aluminium, and rhino wood. The grill’s robust design even evokes the rear end of a vintage Land Rover. Together with Merison, we developed the concept all the way to a production-ready model in SolidWorks.

Unfortunately, the grill never made it to market as Merison pulled the plug before launch. However, the concept lived on. Years later, our BBQ design still appears regularly on Instagram posts, Pinterest boards, and design round-ups. Quietly, it has become a cult classic in the world of industrial design.

From a few blurry photos to a fully engineered product: our design captured Jamie’s love for fire and flavour in every detail. Think oversized knobs, raw materials, and that signature olive green finish. Not just a barbecue, but a statement piece that leaves you hungry for more.
